Last night, I was at the Texas Capitol when this was said. With a straight face. She then refused to answer anymore questions on the bill (that she sponsored) to shut down all but 5 of Texas’s 47 abortion clinics, which will force rural poor to drive more than 1000 miles to get not only a safe abortion, but other services such as cervical cancer screenings, mammograms, fertility resources/family planning, contraception, pap smears, and more. These are places that are not just abortion clinics; for many families in Texas, they are health facilities that provide safe and affordable sexual health services.
Last night, I witnessed the Texas Legislation approve the bill to shut down the clinics. Last night, I witnessed my state tell me that I’m less than a human and I can’t make informed, healthy decisions about my body and reproductive rights. Last night, I saw myself having less rights than a gun owner simply because I am a female.
If this doesn’t get you out on the streets and getting angry, there’s no hope for this country.
